Reviews for Green Light

A few reviews of new releases that I wrote Green Light for the Munster record store. Who wants to spend his money there to records, follow this LINK or comes to Diagon Alley ! 10

Zola Jesus - Poor Animal / I Can 't Stand
Zola Jesus, whose real name is Nika Roza Danilova, drives in the fairway of The Knife, Röyksopp and newer bands in the gloom hype à la Salem, said the assignment to a current trend of young American of course, not just is: Zola Jesus looks now fully on a large hand back of releases, performs a balancing act between commerce and the association in the deepest underground - so we read in every magazine from her, she can in such virtually every major city to experience live, or in a record store in the smallest corner found: for example, in collaboration with the Canadian Burial Hex, allowing them to last year brought out 12 "Variants Ghosts, their common band Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie. Stewart, who dances at a party with Cold Cave shows them under the momentous name Zola Jesus, that they may work well alone! Here she comes with three songs around the corner, the melancholic-but-still-in focus-acting "Poor Animal "Edit and a / respectively. the album version of their hit" I Can not Stand ". A charming thoughtful voice to deepen imaginative synthesizer pads. A little reminiscent of the sound even on the long established Glass Candy, what Jesus would certainly understand Zola as a compliment. A worthwhile issue to reinzuschnuppern! Recommended without any reservation

Laocoon group - Staatsoper
state opera opens with electronic banter, which may remind some Notwist song, the second song capital Cacha associated then but the German Schlager Techno of Cologne compact evergreens Justus Köhncke and shows the true face of the Laocoon group: Musical, or measured at the title may also opera, with opulent techno-orchestral instrumentation, which is a play area for mood texts in the monotonous sing-song. In direct comparison with Köhncke be found in the one-man-Laocoon group, however, a little more courage to kitsch that makes it sometimes difficult to find the boundary with the irony. A bit of it all sound too polar circle as thwarted 18 or of poorer Andrew Doran, whereby fans could benefit from the Austrian Gustav wallow (for which Charles Schwamberger, the brains behind Laocoon group, however, comes along a little stale). All in all, grinning light music for kitsch fans, but already looks toward pop, but this does not correspond in scope as it moved musically and textually clever. This is the history of art and certainly not as strong shape as the real Laocoon group. The album comes with a nice cover on Konkord on CD or double-LP 180gramm

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez -. Tychozorente
What's going on? Expected in the thin guitar virtuoso with the sweeping hairstyle, with long ago the Post-Hardcore At The Drive-conscious in and a short time to inspire later a wider audience with The Mars Volta, a bulky work together from Gitarrenfrickelei feedback Messy and effect, one is when listening to the latest release certainly irritated for now. Not a single guitar track can be pretty lonely stand Tychozorente in the recent back catalog Lopez ', this was how this is to chill 1000 releases of the year (among others in collaboration with No Wave pioneers like Lydia Lunch) surprise yet again: Eight tracks, completely created with the help of Elvin Estella aka DJ Nobody and Ximentia Sarinana Rivera and Omar's little brother Marcel Rodiguez-Lopez - at least the latter romp is indeed both fairly regularly from the releases of the native Puerto Rican. Although it was omitted entirely on guitar, the sound is not necessarily become less eccentric - but, many of the tracks in their density and complexity of the clear and harmonious singing a pleasant diversion. Easy-Listening Music for enemies of easy-listening music! Here listeners get their money, to electronica à la Boards Of Canada, Flying Lotus or deep ambient sounds are, the general fan and persecutor of the output Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is' in the eccentricity of the plate, however, as to its cost.

Ebo Taylor - Love And Death
The companion Fela Kuti, from Ghana to arise and for a long time resident of England, has taken twenty years, a new record: In Berlin produced the legend of highlife sounds with the Afrobeat Academy eight pieces, interpretations of popular songs and original compositions. The result is a timeless Afro beat, rhythmically trained with a charming voice that one would never suggest that the man behind the microphone now approaching a confident stride on the 80th Particularly pleasant on this album is that it does not emulate a past sound, but seamlessly ties in with the gems of a genre - even in production. The highlife sound originating in West Africa gathered here countless genre in dense composition, traditional African instrumentation meets the coolness of jazz and funk. Anyone who feels otherwise, it is willing to surrender the soul of Smokey's live sound, is interested in looking into the history of music in Africa, yet timeliness required is right here. "Brothers and sisters, listen to my story of live and death ...". It has a lot of soul lies with me and definitely not the last time on

Munch Munch - Double Vision
No idea how this band from Bristol Their name would have spoken - but that is indeed not at all what would the combo delivers from the UK here weirder without to work fine. The biggest influence they have in the eccentric Langzeitduo SPARKS, the many offbeat ideas come of it but clearly from different times and universes ascertaining numerical and let the newcomers a remarkable autonomy. Or was there some with track no. 6, "Car Wash (In The Streets)" stolen, even with Nelly Furtado? Not bad ... A certain proximity to TV On The Radio underscores again what is so special: slope, well-made (THE DRUMS!) Music of the 21 Century, but very arty still not clearly assign a genre with a heavy dose of Soul! Musically, Munch Munch work but highly professional, both on the variety used keyboard instruments as well as vocally, and in general: here knows a band, what it does! Varied and serious suspense meet smart and funny irony intended and such a superb rumbling sounds fair. Ten songs, each a discovery and never boring. And again: THE DRUMMER! Great cost, keep it up!
