Diarrhean Before Period

The Radio Dept. - Passive Aggressive: 2002 - 2010

beautiful thing! A total of 28 pieces of Sweden, under the name The Radio Dept.. explore (with breaks and lineup changes) since the age of 15 years, their very personal sound on. Here listeners find the list a meeting of all Singles of the band on the first CD, the B-sides of the respective singles are then on the second Silberling in rank and file. Besides the great songs with hit potential, which can in many cases, however, already knows - either from the club or the radio, in movies, or because we are proud owners of the 14 singles - so there are also tracks to discover that a also have been missing. And for those who do not yet know this great band: The Radio Dept. make it easy slow dreamy pop music, a dense wall of sound with heavily distorted guitars, delicate melodies and inspired bass lines, all against the backdrop of a drum machine, which is an in a time when every other band wants to sound like Joy Division, finally allowed to compare a band with their successor band New Order. Or with the Pet Shop Boys ... Vinyl booklet in 1000 (!) Limits, push ahead, then, CD comes with an opulent and vivid 36-pages. Let's hope that this is a retrospective, and not a farewell!

Dead Confederate - Sugar

An interesting band: actually coming out of the Grunge (at or below this reference, so they released their debut only in 2008), the five friends from Atlanta, Georgia have , now Athens, Georgia (Aha!), their sound Thus, by influences from the guitar music of the recent past, enriched to a kaleidoscope of '90s reminiscences is born! The title of this plate is delicious Sugar (so a 90 band ...) and adjusts the Überstzung: Sugar = sugar! The opening track is pure homage to My Bloody Valentine, followed by songs that are inspired not only by their role models, but rather could also originate from the pens of the original: Nirvana, Mudhoney, early Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo and Dinosaur Jr. their long-haired grau-bzw.weiß-/aber definitely mastermind J Mascis and the same prominent guest musicians of this little jewel is ten tracks full! The fifth left in Sugar, "By Design", I had repeated incredulously realize that this is not Radiohead to Pablo Honey / The Bends / OK Computer-times, which still had a track over and these are then transferred to Dead Confederate . But enough of the comparisons: it creates the band to make it all their own thing! The influences are shot through the filter Dead Confederate, therefore, do not sound like the work of a band that mourns the 90s, but as an authentic 90's tape off the years. Here, the multi-layered sound of the Americans not just for today than 30 years of grunge, the scowling with the motto "In the past everything was better" , Shaken about but certainly a potential for discovery any person who is on broad-wall guitar sound. Try it!

Tapes' N'Tapes - Outside

new and third album by the band from Minneapolis. The band there for about seven years and they have experienced on countless concerts technically strong development, it is the first hearing something straightforward indie rock of the young men entirely the testimony of a musical proficiency, has finally grown up. The band labeled Info Tapes' N tape in the Indie category, which the whole only partly meet is so sound Tapes' N Tapes contrary to the rock ballads of current indie bands, and are therefore to be understood as a rather peaceful and decelerated the sidelines of the genre. Outside has even his fast, typically hectic moments, but is rather time than you would expect in this deviation. The twelve songs appear strong drive way on the band's own label, ibid records, then what time is really "indie" ...

Helgi Jonsson - Blindfolded

that not all music that comes from Iceland to sound like a runtergepitschter elf porn, proves Helgi Jonsson, Helgi Hrafn Jonsson born, with his third album (!) Blindfolded. The proximity of Iceland and the unique musical tradition of his culture is, of course anyway, but remains enigmatic. The musical multi-talent enthusiastically to the beautifully packaged release with trombone (his first love), guitar, all kinds Klimmbimm, a steady exchange of reduced, hesitant tones of the great orchestral gesture, so that, ultimately, a sound, which as in Iceland feel good, but something is global, therefore designed. The whole is supported by the gentle and charming voice Jonsson, who collect both as live performers as well as support even at sizes as Icelandic Sigur Rós and Björk experience was allowed. The trumpet, which runs through the whole album reminds, then most of Sigur Rós, especially in their magnificent and in its quality and uniqueness in my opinion never again reached over Ágætis Byrjun album. But more accessible in English and less introverted. Perhaps this is the fact that Jonsson is in his life, traveled extensively around the world in his childhood with a jazz ensemble, with the already mentioned artists as well as solo, he also lived for six years in Austria. The sound of this beautiful warm plate that is clearly rooted in Iceland has, but at times also in the direction of Scotland, keyword Travis. Therefore: definitive Recommended for fans of Sigur Rós and the haze, but everyone else should definitely also individually get their money ...

Dum Dum Girl - He Gets Me High

Country-biased four-song release of the Dum Dum Girl, yes I think the parallel to Siouxsie & The Banshees, Patti Smith next shoegazer influences à la Spacemen 3 Remember also to The Pretenders. The four songs that the California all-girl group presented here can be proud of. A highlight is certainly the cover of the Smiths classic "There's A Light That Never Goes Out". Quite close to the original make the Dum Dum Girl here a little more wall of sound in this most beautiful of all love songs, and deliver one of the better cover versions of the imitated by so many artists play. "He Gets Me High" is also the first release of the ladies on Sub Pop! And who is now this "He" that makes as "high"? Maybe Steven Patrick Morrissey!

La Sera - Self Titled

La Sera is hidden behind the new band from Katy Goodman, the many would probably already be known by her former band Vivian Girls. On the self-titled debut, it's much too quiet, so gather has twelve dreamy pop ballads, the music clearly your reference found in the 50's. The sound has been reproduced here authentic, only the song makes it clear what decade we are. A good combination of citation and independence, which give each of the twelve pieces of its own charm. Lyrically, densely arranged Katy Goodman uses the average two minutes of their songs is full, her voice is omnipresent - sometimes as an instrument in the choir breathed, but mostly in a poetic language that harmonizes perfectly with the '50s sound. La Sera is a discovery worth and have more hope ...
